The USGlobalSat BU-353 is a completely self-contained and waterproof GPS receiver that easily connects to your mini-ITX computer through a USB connector. With non-slip on the base and its compact deasign, the BU-353 can be utilized in a variety of applications that may require magnetic mounting with a waterproof configuration. It incorporates the latest SiRF Star III GPS chipset and an active patch antenna so you receive the highest degree of GPS accuracy.

Includes a driver to convert the USB port into a virtual COM port so it can work with most NMEA compliant mapping software on the market today.

Since the BU-353 includes both the antenna AND receiver in one unit, all you need is GPS software.  You can either purchase a stand-alone GPS program, or you can purchase a software front end that includes GPS data.

Back when I started looking for a GPS receiver for my first carputer in 2003 I got myself a BU353. This unit is able to get a lock onto satellites within 3/4 seconds from a cold boot! It's very sensitive being able to pickup satelites whilst in the city amongst buildings, in a garage etc. It has worked so well I just bought another one for another carputer.

I have used other GPS solutions in the past including serial and bluetooth. This unit is small and simply works. You also cant beat the price. Just plug it in and download the drivers and its good to go. It has a magnet on the bottom and is waterproof if you want to mount it ontop of your car. I used double sided tape and mounted it where my dash meets the window and it works great. No flashy distracting leds.
